The aim of the research programme is to collect data on these eulogies from documentary sources dating to the middle and late Byzantine periods, i.e. from the eighth to the fifteenth century, and to locate, record and collect the relevant material remains, that is the portable objects used as mementoes of pilgrimages to Christian shrines from the same time period. Vicky Foskolou, Lecturer in Byzantine Archaeology in the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Crete is the Academic Director of the programme, which is funded by the Research Committee of the University of Crete.
