The Directorate of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Antiquities is part of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. Its operational objectives are: a) The harmonization of the work and activities of the Regional and Special Regional Services of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage for issues of preservation, protection, promotion, organization, configuration and management of archaeological sites, monuments, historical sites, dating from 4th century A.D. until 1830, as well as newer religious monuments after 1830, in collaboration with other co-competent Services of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. b) The coordination of archaeological research and works in the context of Major Public Works.
