Laboratory of Medieval and Modern Archeology in the Mediterranean (LA3M, CNRS, UMR 7298), University of Aix-Marseille

The Laboratory of Medieval Archaeology in the Mediterranean (LAMM) was established by G. Démians d'Archimbaud in the early 1970s. Over time, as researchers' interests expanded to include more recent historical periods, the scope of its missions evolved, leading to its renaming in 2012 as the Laboratory of Medieval and Modern Archaeology in the Mediterranean (LA3M). Today, the work conducted there encompasses the entire Mediterranean region from the 5th to the 20th century. The team comprises approximately thirty researchers, teacher-researchers, and engineers, distinguished by the breadth of their expertise, including sedimentary and built archaeology, architecture, history, art history, ceramology, and archaeometallurgy.
